SEOUL—The government did not grant asylum to any of the 81 foreign applicants for refugee status since the nation joined the Geneva convention on refugees in 1992, according to a report by the Justice Ministry to Rep. Song Young-gil of the ruling Millennium Democratic Party.
From 1994 until the end of September this year, 81 foreigners sought asylum here, but 51 were denied, with the ministry still withholding its decision on 30 cases.
By nationality, those from Myanmar numbered 21, Algerians 18, Iranians 10, Congolese five, and Afghans five.
